Mohammed Yahya & Native Sun featuring Amina Atiq

Brace yourself for some of the UK’s freshest poetry, spoken word and melodies from the internationally-acclaimed Native Sun, AKA rapper Mohammed Yahya and singer-songwriter Sarina Leah.

With roots in Mozambique and Jamaica, this London-based duo fuse hip hop and African rhythms to produce a unique sound with an irresistible message of social justice. Native Sun are joined on stage by Yemeni-Scouse spoken-word artist and activist Amina Atiq.

A public event presented as part of the Pop Culture and Social Change Retreat 2018, hosted by Counterpoints Arts.


Mohammed Yahya


Mohammed Yahya is a London based award-winning bilingual Rapper, Poet, Educator & Events organiser. Born during the civil war in Mozambique, Mohammed, his experience as a refugee in Portugal inspired a career in rap. In 2019 he received an award for best-performing artist song “Say Mashallah", also featuring UK based rappers Khaled Siddiq & Qasim Gray. He has featured on television and public performances across the UK and internationally.

Native Sun


Native Sun is a London based duo consisting of bilingual rapper Mohammed Yahya, born in Mozambique, South East Africa and singer-song writer Sarina Leah born in London with Caribbean roots.

Amina Atiq


Amina Atiq is a Yemeni- Scouse writer, a performance artist, facilitator and activist. Amina is currently developing a spoken word monologue wit DadaFest, inviting the audience to a 1970’s Yemeni-British household, untangling what it means to belong.
