Michael is a lawyer-turned-journalist-turned-entrepreneur who runs Powerful Media Ltd, one of the most respected black–owned businesses in the UK.
Michael left the UK for Nigeria in his early teens, where he qualified for the Nigerian bar. After returning to Britain and doing a Master’s degree in law and a post-graduate diploma in periodical journalism, he made the decision to become a sports journalist and worked on the sports desks of a number of national newspapers, including the Sunday Times and The Observer. He has written on a variety of subjects for a number of UK papers and has appeared on television a number of times, usually related to issues concerning diversity and inclusion and the UK’s BAME communities in general.
Michael spent nine years as the Editorial Director of Ethnic Media Group, which was at the time the biggest minority ethnic newspaper organization in the UK. He founded Powerful Media in 2006, which is home to The Powerlist and Future Leaders publications, a bespoke recruitment firm and an events division.
His first love remains sport, particularly football, athletics and boxing, all of which he has written about extensively. He is, for his sins, a diehard Manchester United supporter.
